2023 Mock Rock Recap

 

Mock Rock was originally created in 1999 as a tribute to Michigan wrestler Jeff Reese, who passed away while training for a meet. The proceeds from the event went to fund the Jeff Reese Endowed Scholarship. Over time, student-athletes began to use this event to fundraise for a beneficiary in the community. In 2023, SAAC voted to fundraise on behalf of Kaylee America Rodriguez, a junior middle infielder on the Michigan softball team. In September 2022, Kaylee was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma, a type of bone cancer. She has returned home for treatment and to be closer to family. KRod has undergone intensive chemotherapy and has received a partial hip replacement. To send support to KRod and other sarcoma patients, SAAC created a fund to support KRod's hospital with their Sarcoma Patient Assistance program. All Mock Rock proceeds were donated to this fund.
