The Piano Man

When holiday season comes around each year, concert halls, churches and families everywhere call on a piano tuner. For decades, piano technician Peter Stumpf of Baldwin, Pennsylvania has brought his tuning fork, and his fine ear, to pianos grand and small. It's a career that's spanned 32 years and more than 40 thousand pianos. In this short documentary, WQED's Beth Dolinar showcases Peter's expertise working on the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra's new Steinway concert grand piano, the piano that filled First Baptist Church in Oakland as it accompanied the Pitt Men's Glee Club and Women's Choral Ensemble—and even a tune-up in a Pittsburgh living room.
