How to grow Brugmansia sanguinea - the Angel's Trumpet - a cool climate species of this great plant!

Yes viewers this week we stand beneath the amazing blooms of Brugmansia sanguinea and Brugmansia sanguinea subsp. sanguinea 'Flava' - it's yellow flowered cousin. (Though any name for the yellow form should be considered inconclusive and not as yet settled.) Native to the Columbian Andes this is the most cool tolerant of all the Brugmansias and in fact needs the cooler weather of autumn to trigger flowering...just not TOO cool! It is frost sensitive. And yes, the Brugmansias are toxic so don't ingest any part of the plant! Like their tropical cousins these two Brugmansias make great potted specimens and, if your climate is suitable, brilliant fast growing screening plants! We also mention Iochroma grandiflorum and this is the video we made about that: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=COfFOcWOdhI 00:00 introduction 00:29 Brugmansia introduction 00:37 toxicity 01.44 cool tolerance 02:08 Brugmansia sanguinea introduction 02:22 flowering time 02:28 plant size 02:32 flower description 02:52 pollination 03:22 native climate range 04:43 not fragrant flowers 05:46 preferred climate range 06:15 as potted specimens 07:21 introduction to Brugmansia sanguinea subsp. sanguinea 'Flava' 08:43 Iochroma grandiflorum comparison 09:01 family Solanaceae 09:23 Brugmansia as a safe garden plant 10:38 propagation 11:18 water needs 11:49 pruning 12:29 use as a screening plant 12:35 fast growing 13:08 standardising as potted specimens 13:41 native range 14:05 Datura name change 15:00 common name: Angel's trumpets
