Unlike Apollo, the Artemis Program includes a space station orbiting the moon which is referred to as The Gateway. The Gateway will be an outpost that provides vital support for a sustainable, long-term human return to the lunar surface, as well as being a staging point for deep space exploration missions to destinations like Mars. The Gateway will be in a Near Rectilinear Halo Orbit (NRHO), from which NASA and its international and commercial partners will be able to springboard robotic and human expeditions to and around the Moon and on to Mars. The Gateway is modeled after the International Space Station and because of its orbit it will be in constant contact with Mission Control on the earth. The main components of the Gateway are the Power & Propulsion Element and the Habitation And Logistics Outpost Element.
