This film was conceived, developed, directed and produced by filmmaker and learning designer Hugh Fenton. Working closely with award-winning cinematographer Richard Michalak, Hugh unpacked more than 30 years of Richard’s cinematography knowledge, structured it into clear, teachable concepts, scripted the explanations and designed and filmed practical examples to make those concepts easy to understand. If you found the way this film breaks a complicated subject into simple, practical ideas useful, Hugh has since applied the same approach to an entire filmmaking course. The free step-by-step course is designed for people making educational, promotional and documentary films. It contains 40 short lessons that take you through the whole process — from planning your film and choosing equipment, through filming interviews and sequences, to editing the finished piece.
